Android TV or Google TV

Sets, sticks and boxes running Android 7.0 or newer. Install from Google Play, or directly with the Downloader app if the Play Store does not list it for you.

Android phone

Every setup needs one. You sign in on it, link the TV and pick what you are watching. There is no iPhone version.

Windows computer

An early beta that mutes the computer's sound while a flagged word is spoken.

Samsung, LG, Roku or Fire TV

Not on the TV itself. A Google TV or Android TV streaming stick or box plugged into the TV works. See Will it work on my TV?

Google Play or direct install

Google Play is the easiest: the Play Store installs it and keeps it up to date. If Google Play does not list Family Filter TV for your device yet, use the direct install.

Direct install is the same app, signed and built from the same source, as a plain APK file from this website. It works today on any Android TV, Google TV or Android phone running Android 7.0 or newer, and it updates itself from the app's Settings screen.

Pick one route per device. The Google Play version and the direct version are signed differently, so Android will not install one over the other. To switch on the same device, uninstall the first, install the second, then sign in and link the TV again. The old entry keeps using one of your devices until you remove it under Account, Manage devices. A TV on one route and a phone on the other is fine.

Questions

Does Family Filter TV only work with Stremio?

No. It works with Netflix and other apps on your Android TV or Google TV: you follow the title from your phone and the TV mutes the swear words. Stremio is one more way to watch, where the film plays through Family Filter TV directly.

Which should I choose, Google Play or the direct install?

Use Google Play if it lists Family Filter TV for your device. If it does not, use the direct install. It is the same app. Pick one per device, because the two cannot be installed over each other.

Is the direct install safe?

It is the same app, built from the same source and signed with our key, downloaded from familyfiltertv.com. The page shows a checksum of the file so you can check it.

Do I need both a TV and a phone?

Yes. The TV does the muting. The phone is where you sign in, link the TV and choose what you are watching. A Windows computer can stand in for the TV in the early beta.
