Install Family Filter TV on an Android phone
Every Family Filter TV setup needs an Android phone. You sign in on it, link your TV, pick the film or episode you are watching and set how strict the filter is. It runs on Android 7.0 or newer. There is no iPhone version.
Route 1: Google Play
Open Family Filter TV on Google Play on the phone, or search for it in the Play Store.
Tap Install, then Open.
If Google Play does not list it for your phone yet, use route 2.
Route 2: direct install
This is the same app as a plain APK file, from this website.
Download the file
On the phone, open this page and tap Download APK, or open familyfiltertv.com/apk in the phone's browser.
Allow the install
When Android or your browser asks about installing unknown apps, allow it for this one install.
Open the file
Open the downloaded file and tap Install. If Google Play Protect shows a warning because the app did not come from the Play Store, choose to install it anyway.
Open the app
Tap Open. If it also asks to install unknown apps, allow it. That is what lets it install its own updates later from its Settings screen.
Checking the newest direct install version…
SHA-256 of the file, if you want to check it: unavailable
Pick one route per device. The Google Play version and the direct version are signed differently, so Android will not install one over the other. To switch on the same device, uninstall the first, install the second, then sign in and link the TV again. The old entry keeps using one of your devices until you remove it under Account, Manage devices. A TV on one route and a phone on the other is fine.
First time you open it
Sign in or create your account. One account covers the whole household.
Install it on your TV too: TV install guide. Open it on the TV to see a short code.
On the phone, tap Account, then Link a device, and type the code.
Start a film or episode on the TV. On the phone, tap Home, search for the same title, pick it and tap Start following. If the phone asks to use the microphone, tap Allow.
After it is installed
Open the app on the TV to see a short code, then link it from the phone and start following a title. The whole thing takes about five minutes.
Questions
Does it work on an iPhone?
No. Family Filter TV is an Android app, and you need an Android phone with Android 7.0 or newer.
Why does the phone ask to use the microphone?
In some apps, on live channels and on a Windows computer the TV cannot tell where you are in the show, so the phone listens to find the place. The sound is recognised on the phone and is not saved or sent anywhere. With Netflix on an Android TV the TV reads the place itself and no listening is needed.
Android says it cannot install the app.
If you used the direct install, allow installs from unknown apps for the browser or file app you opened it from. If it says the app was not installed, a copy from the Google Play route is probably already on the phone. Uninstall it and try again.
Can the phone and the TV use different routes?
Yes. The phone can be on Google Play and the TV on the direct install, or the other way round. Only one route per device.
Family Filter TV is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Google, Netflix, Stremio or any TV maker. Guide last checked 11 October 2026.
