These terms cover use of the FamilyFilterTV Android app ("the app"), provided by Jacques du Preez, South Africa. By creating an account or using the app you agree to these terms.

What the app is

FamilyFilterTV is a video player that registers as an external player for Stremio. It plays streams Stremio hands to it and mutes its own audio output during subtitle lines that match a profanity-filter profile you choose. It does not host, index, source, or redistribute any video content itself — all streams and subtitles come from Stremio and its add-ons. FamilyFilterTV is an independent app and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Stremio, Google, or OpenSubtitles.

Your account

Using FamilyFilterTV requires an account, created with an email address and password or with Google sign-in. Accounts are for parents and other adults (18+) setting up filtering for the household — see "Who this is for" below. Keep your sign-in details to yourself; you're responsible for activity on your account.

Subscription and free trial

FamilyFilterTV costs US$14.99 a year, with the first 14 days free. Google Play shows and charges the equivalent in your own currency, at the price Google sets for your country, so the amount you see at checkout is the amount you pay. Payment is handled by Google Play Billing and your subscription is managed through RevenueCat, our subscription-management provider. You can cancel any time from Google Play — your account keeps filtering until the end of the period you already paid for. Refunds are handled per Google Play's own refund policy.

Devices

Your account includes 3 devices (any mix of TVs and phones). You can add a 4th device for US$3.09/year, a 5th for US$6.19/year, and a 6th for US$9.29/year, again charged in your own currency, up to a hard limit of 6 devices per account. Device limits are enforced by our servers, not by the app itself, so they can't be worked around on-device. Linking a TV is done from your phone with a short code shown on the TV, which expires after 2 minutes.

What happens if your subscription lapses

FamilyFilterTV never plays a stream unfiltered. If your free trial ends or your subscription lapses, the app stops filtering — and stops playback — until you subscribe again. If your device goes offline, a previously active subscription keeps working for up to 7 days (the offline grace period) before the app requires a fresh check.

Accuracy of filtering

Filtering quality depends entirely on the accuracy and availability of subtitles supplied by Stremio's add-ons or embedded in the video file. FamilyFilterTV does not generate, verify, or guarantee the correctness of any subtitle, and cannot filter content for which no matching subtitle can be found. Filtering is a best-effort aid based on available subtitles — it is never a substitute for your own supervision of what your household watches.

Who this is for

Accounts are for parents and other adults (18+). FamilyFilterTV is a tool for adults to filter what plays for their household, not a service offered directly to children.

Acceptable use

Use the app only for its intended purpose alongside Stremio and lawfully obtained streams. Don't share an account or device slots outside your own household, and don't attempt to reverse engineer, disrupt, or abuse the app, our servers, or the third-party services it connects to (Stremio's Cinemeta and OpenSubtitles add-ons).

Termination

You can stop using the app and cancel your subscription at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms, in particular the acceptable-use or device-sharing rules above.

No warranty

The app is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation, or that filtering will catch every instance of profanity or miss none that should have played.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Jacques du Preez is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the app, including reliance on its filtering for content-suitability decisions.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of South Africa.

Changes

These terms may be updated from time to time, in particular as new features or platforms are added. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be updated when that happens.
