Will it work on my TV?
It depends on the system your TV runs, not the brand. If your TV has the Google Play Store, yes.
How to tell in 10 seconds
Press Home on your TV remote. If you see Google TV, or the Google Play Store among the apps, Family Filter TV works on that TV.
Brand by brand
| Brand | Works? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Skyworth, TCL, Sony, Philips, Xiaomi (Google TV and Android TV models) | Yes | Install from Google Play on the TV. |
| Hisense | Some models | Sets sold as “Google TV”: yes. Sets running Hisense’s own VIDAA system: no. |
| Samsung (Tizen) | Not on the TV itself | Use a streaming stick or box. See below. |
| LG (webOS) | Not on the TV itself | Use a streaming stick or box. See below. |
| Roku TVs, Amazon Fire TV | Not at this time | Nothing to install yet. |
| Any TV with a Google TV or Android TV streaming stick or box plugged into HDMI | Yes | Watch through the stick or box. Install from Google Play on it. |
Brands often sell more than one kind of TV, so check the Home screen test above for your own set. Brand names belong to their owners. Family Filter TV is not affiliated with them.
I have a Samsung or LG
The simplest way today is a Google TV or Android TV streaming stick or box in an HDMI port of your TV. Watch through it, and Family Filter TV works the same as on any Google TV.
We are honest about the limit: the built-in Samsung and LG apps cannot be filtered, because those TVs do not let one app mute another. We are looking at other ways for these TVs, but we cannot promise anything.
What else you need
- An Android phone (Android 7.0 or newer) with the Family Filter TV app.
- One Family Filter TV account.
- Subtitles for the film or episode. The app tells you when it cannot find them.
Watching on a computer?
There is an early beta for Windows. See the Windows section of the download page.
