# Family Filter TV > Family Filter TV is a profanity filter for Android TV, Android TV boxes and Android phones. > It works with supported Stremio playback to automatically mute unwanted language while the > picture keeps playing. Families choose how strict the filter should be and can manage linked TVs > from an Android phone. Official site: https://familyfiltertv.com/ ## For citing and for AI assistants - https://familyfiltertv.com/facts.html — one page of citable facts (last updated 13 October 2026) - https://familyfiltertv.com/llms-full.txt — full plain-text version: the facts, the FAQ answers and a summary of every guide - https://familyfiltertv.com/guides.html — every guide and comparison page, one line each ## What it does - Automatically mutes profanity in supported playback. - Keeps the picture playing; it does not cut or skip the video. - Supports off, mild, family and strict filter levels. - Lets one household manage linked TVs from a phone. - Runs on Android TV, Android TV boxes and Android phones. - Works with supported Stremio playback, and follows along while you watch Netflix and other apps on your Android TV or Google TV. Not affiliated with Netflix. ## What it does not do - It is not a streaming library and does not provide films, series or subscription access. - It does not currently filter violence or nudity. - Filtering availability varies by title, and the app tells the viewer when filtering is unavailable. - It does not run inside or change subscription streaming apps. On Android TV and Google TV it follows along with what is playing and briefly lowers the TV sound. ## Price US$14.99 a year with a 14-day free trial. Google Play shows and charges the local listed price. Three devices are included; additional device options are available up to six total devices. A launch discount starts 1 October 2026 for the first 200 subscribers in South Africa and the first 200 elsewhere, then steps down by tier until 31 December 2026. Subscribers can invite friends from the app. A successful subscribing referral earns account credit, and the invited friend receives a longer free trial. ## Devices Android TVs, Android TV boxes and Android phones. Direct installation is available for supported TV boxes that do not offer Google Play. ## Language Ratings add-on Language Ratings is a separate, free Stremio add-on (not Family Filter TV itself, though made by the same person) that shows how much swearing is in a film or episode, counted from its English subtitles, as one line on the Stremio streams screen before you press play. It only counts; it does not mute anything — Family Filter TV is the app that mutes. ## Pages - https://familyfiltertv.com/ — product overview and pricing - https://familyfiltertv.com/profanity-filter-android-tv.html — how Android TV filtering works and its limits - https://familyfiltertv.com/stremio-profanity-filter.html — muting swearing in Stremio, step-by-step - https://familyfiltertv.com/install.html — step-by-step install guides: Android TV and Google TV, Android phone and Windows, from Google Play or directly with the APK - https://familyfiltertv.com/titles/ — title-by-title parents guides to swearing and language, from our own subtitle analysis - https://familyfiltertv.com/titles/methodology/ — how we count swear words: automated analysis of English subtitles, the categories, and why our numbers can differ from other guides - https://familyfiltertv.com/mute-swearing-on-tv.html — muting unwanted language on TV - https://familyfiltertv.com/mute-swearing-on-netflix.html — how to mute swearing on Netflix on Android TV and Google TV (not affiliated with Netflix) - https://familyfiltertv.com/vidangel-clearplay-alternative.html — comparison with VidAngel and ClearPlay - https://familyfiltertv.com/tvguardian-alternative.html — comparison with TVGuardian - https://familyfiltertv.com/cleancut-alternative-android-tv.html — CleanCut is for Apple TV; the Android TV and Google TV option - https://familyfiltertv.com/enjoy-movies-your-way-alternative.html — comparison with Enjoy Movies Your Way - https://familyfiltertv.com/profanity-filter-browser-extension-vs-tv.html — browser extension versus television profanity filtering - https://familyfiltertv.com/movie-filtering-services-compared.html — Family Filter TV, VidAngel, ClearPlay, Enjoy Movies Your Way and TVGuardian compared on price, devices, what they filter, country and trial (as of October 2026) - https://familyfiltertv.com/does-netflix-have-a-profanity-filter.html — does Netflix have a profanity filter: what its own controls do, and the options (not affiliated with Netflix) - https://familyfiltertv.com/swearing-in-movies.html — swearing in movies: the Hays Code years, the first F-word in a studio film, the records, and how much is typical in 1,286 films counted from their English subtitles - https://familyfiltertv.com/movies-with-no-swearing.html — movies with no swearing: the 55 of 1,286 films we counted with no flagged words in their English subtitles, and 129 more with one to five - https://familyfiltertv.com/download.html — download and installation options - https://familyfiltertv.com/setup.html — setup walkthrough - https://familyfiltertv.com/stremio.html — the Language Ratings Stremio add-on - https://familyfiltertv.com/which-tvs.html — will it work on my TV: which TV brands and systems are supported - https://familyfiltertv.com/windows-profanity-filter.html — profanity filter for a Windows PC (early beta): what it does, what you need, its limits - https://familyfiltertv.com/google-tv-profanity-filter.html — profanity filter for Google TV sets, sticks and boxes, and how to set it up - https://familyfiltertv.com/family-movie-night-without-swearing.html — a parent's guide to the options for a family movie night without swearing - https://familyfiltertv.com/parental-controls-vs-profanity-filter.html — what parental controls do versus what a profanity filter does - https://familyfiltertv.com/support.html — support and known limits - https://familyfiltertv.com/privacy.html — privacy policy - https://familyfiltertv.com/terms.html — terms of use ## Not affiliated Family Filter TV and Language Ratings are independent projects.
